Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center, which includes
the world’s only free-standing, Catholic-affiliated
children’s hospital, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in
2006. The center is affiliated with Saint Louis University
School of Medicine and is home of the Bob Costas Cancer
Center and St. Louis Cord Blood Bank, the second-most-active
cord blood bank in the world.
The Glennon staff touches the live of over 250,000 children
through admissions, emergency room treatments and outpatient
visits each year. Many of these patients are seen at two
dozen “Glennon Care” outreach sites in eastern Missouri and
southern Illinois. Glennon is part of the SSM Healthcare
system, which was the first health care winner of the
prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The
award is given annually by the U.S. Department of Commerce
to recognize the highest levels of quality management and
quality achievement.
